AbstractMolecular inductive effect index was proposed for the first time using group inductive effect index (MI). Effective length of carbon chain (N-C) was calculated by N-C = (MIs,N/MIb,N) . N for the paraffinic hydrocarbons, where MIs,N, MIb,N were the molecular inductive effect index of straight chain and branched chain paraffin, respectively. The results showed that the relationship between the boiling point (T-b) of paraffinic hydrocarbons and the effective length of carbon chain(N-C) was: In ( 806.5 - T-b) 6.98240-0.11431 N-C(2/3).
