Preparation and radiolabeling of antimony sulfide nanocolloids with two different particle sizes

AbstractAntimony sulfide nanocolloids with two different particle sizes were prepared by a modified traditional method and a new method. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) showed the mean particle sizes to be 10.2+/-2.3 and 44.7+/-13.8 nm, respectively. The nanocolloids were then radiolabeled with Tc-99m, or with Re-188. The labeling yields of Tc-99m-Sb2S3 (10.2+/-2.3 nm and 44.7+/-13.8 nm) > 98% and > 96% for Re-188-Sb2S3 (10.2+/-2.3 and 44.7+/-13.8 nm). The stability of the labeled products was studied at room temperature and all showed excellent stability except for (ReSb2S3)-Re-188 (10.2+/-2.3nm). The mechanism of labeling of nanocolloids with 188Re is different from that of Tc-99m. The antimony sulfide nanocollides prepared by the new method, after labeling are expected to have diagnostic or therapeutic potential in nuclear medicine. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
