AbstractDifferent Mo species in Mo/Al2O3 catalysts were characterized by time differential perturbe angular correlation (TDPAC) and their HDS activities were measured. The Mo/Al2O3 catalysts in oxidic and reduced states contain at least two kinds of Mo species. One of them is the precussors of the active sulfided state, which is represented as Mo (VI)P for the oxidic catalysts and as Mo (IV)P for the reduced catalysts. A maximum amount of the Mo(VI)P appears in a catalyst with 9-10%MoO3. Mo loading, calcination temerature and promotor Co atoms affect significantly the amount of Mo ( VI )P species in the Mo/Al2O3 catalysts. There is a strong interaction of Mo(VI)P with the support .
