Triton/He-3 ratio as an observable for neutron-skin thickness

AbstractBased on the framework of the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model in which the initial neutron and proton densities are sampled according to the droplet model, the correlation between triton-to-He-3 yield ratio [ R(t/He-3) = Yield(t)/Yield(He-3)] and neutron skin thickness (delta(np)) in neutron-rich projectile induced reactions is investigated. By changing the diffuseness parameter of neutron density distribution in the droplet model for the projectile to obtain different delta(np), the relationship between delta(np) and the corresponding R(t/He-3) in semiperipheral collisions is obtained. The calculated results show that R(t/He-3) has a strong linear correlation with delta(np) for neutron-rich Ca-50 and Ni-68 nuclei. It is suggested that R(t/He-3) could be regarded as a good experimental observable to extract delta(np) for neutron-rich nuclei because the yields of charged particles triton and He-3 can be measured quite precisely.
