AbstractIn this paper, CdSe quantum dots (QDs) with particle size ca. 4.5 nm were prepared by a facile chemical route. The thermal expansion of the prepared CdSe QDs was investigated by in situ X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (XAFS) with the temperature from room temperature to 700 degrees C as well. Notably, it was found that the thermal expansion of the CdSe QDs is about 2.0x10(-5)/K, which is one order of larger than that of bulk CdSe (3 similar to 8x10(-6)/K). Consequently, the thermal properties of CdSe QDs are strongly related to the size of the dots, as thermal expansion decreasing with increasing the particle size.
