AbstractThe synchrotron radiation and free electron laser are electromagnetic radiation light sources which are both generated by the relativistic electron beam. Both sources have been widely used in the national economic, scientific and technical researches, national defense and military fields. The insert device made of permanent magnet is one of the key equipments of the synchrotron radiation light source and the free electron laser facility. Magnetic properties and quality of magnetic materials especially have significant influence on magnetic field quality, magnetic field peak value, magnetic field stability and operation scheme of insert devices. This paper reviewed characteristics of synchrotron radiation and free electron laser, and their conceptual application.
